
Antonio Baylos Grau is Emeritus Professor of Labor Law and Social Security at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (UCLM). His research focuses on the foundations of labor law and legal culture, European social law, union law, and the evolution of labor relations systems.
He has authored the following monographs: Derecho de huelga y servicios esenciales (Madrid, 1987 and 1988); Derecho del Trabajo, modelo para armar (Madrid, 1991), translated into Italian as Diritto del lavoro: un modello per proggettare(Turin, 1993) and Portuguese as Direito do trabalho: um modelo para armar (São Paulo, 1999); El despido: Calificación jurídica y efectos (Lima, 1997); Las relaciones laborales en España (1978–2003) (Madrid, 2003); Sindicalismo y Derecho Sindical (Albacete, multiple editions between 2004 and 2021), translated into Catalan as Sindicalisme i dret sindical (Albacete, 2009); Inmigración y derechos sindicales (Albacete, 2009); ¿Para qué sirve un sindicato? Instrucciones de uso (Madrid, 2012 and 2021); Servicios esenciales, servicios mínimos y derecho de huelga (Albacete, 2018); Deslocalizaciones de empresas y despidos colectivos (Albacete, 2022 and 2023).
He has coordinated key works, including La reforma laboral de 1994 (Cuenca, 1996); Materiales para la reforma laboral de 1997 (Albacete, 1998); La dimensión europea y transnacional de la autonomía colectiva (Albacete, 2004); Estudios sobre la huelga (Albacete, 2005); Garantías de empleo y derechos laborales en la Ley 35/2010, de Reforma laboral(Albacete, 2010); Políticas de austeridad y crisis en las relaciones laborales: la reforma del 2012 (Albacete, 2012); Modelos de Derecho del Trabajo y Cultura de los Juristas (Albacete, 2014). Alongside Joaquín Aparicio, he co-edited Autoridad y democracia en la empresa (Madrid, 1992) and El régimen legal del despido tras la reforma laboral (Madrid, 1995).
Baylos has co-authored additional monographs: Derecho Penal del Trabajo with Juan Terradillos (Madrid, 1990, 1991, 1997); Instituciones de Derecho Procesal Laboral with Jesús Cruz and M. Fernanda Fernández (Madrid, multiple editions); and El despido o la violencia del poder privado with J. Pérez Rey (Madrid, 2009, with a Portuguese translation: O despedimento ou a violência do poder privado, São Paulo, 2009).
He has published over 200 articles and book chapters in leading national and international journals. As the director of Revista de Derecho Social (Bomarzo Publishing) since 1998, he is part of the International Association of Labour Law Journals (IALLJ), which brings together prestigious journals from 20 countries and is recognized for its high impact in the field. From 2006 to 2011, he co-directed Revista de Derecho Social – Latinoamérica with Oscar Ermida. He serves on the editorial boards of various European and Latin American labor law journals and directs the Labor Law series of the Revista del Ministerio de Trabajo y Economía Social since 2020.
Baylos has received numerous honors, including the 2007 Gabriel Alonso de Herrera Award for Research Excellence from the Castilla-La Mancha government. He is a corresponding member of the Brazilian Academy of Labor Law (ABDT) and holds honorary doctorates from the National University of San Agustín of Arequipa (Peru, 2007), Valparaíso University (Chile, 2023), and CRV União de Vitória (Brazil, 2024). He was declared an Honorary Citizen of Rio de Janeiro on March 12, 2024.
