
Emeritus Professor at the University of Zaragoza, member of the Academia Europaea and the IEDIS. He holds a degree and a Master’s in Business Administration from ESADE and a Master of Science and a PhD in Management Science from Purdue University (USA). He has been a full professor of business organization at the Universities of Zaragoza and Autónoma de Barcelona, as well as a visiting researcher at Stanford University and the University of Connecticut.
His area of specialization, which has defined his teaching and research career, is organizational economics and institutional theory of the firm, with publications in the Journal of Economic Theory, European Economic Review, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Accounting and Economics, among others.
He has been a member of the Governing Council (1994–1998, 2006–2018) and the Executive Commission (2006–2018) of the Bank of Spain and has participated in boards of trustees and/or scientific committees of organizations such as the CICYT, the Foundation for Analytical Economics (CSIC), the BBVA Foundation, the CEMFI, and FEDEA.
He has been honored with the Rey Jaime I Prize for Economics, the Medal for Professional Merit from the Government of Aragón, the Juan Sardá Prize for Economics, the Grand Cross for Merit in Service to the Economy, the Basilio Paraíso Medal, and an honorary doctorate from the Autonomous University of Barcelona.
